Welland's Business Services sector continues to grow

Services are the most rapidly growing sector in Canada, and it shows as Welland has seen several significant service companies set up shop and provide jobs at all levels. Companies like Canadian Tire Financial Services which has a long history in the City, BCM Insurance, and RATESDOTCA are bringing specialized services to the community. Access to talent from business and technology programs at Niagara College and Brock University combined with business operating costs, lifestyle and personal cost of living, positions Niagara and Welland as a viable location outside larger metro areas for investment and expansion in all manners of business services. There are currently 124 business services in Welland employing approximately 2,000.

Tools and Resources

Niagara College’s School of Business and Management – The Niagara College School of Business and Management prepares students for a wide variety of industries spanning from accounting to marketing, human resources, international business, and more. Programs are taught by professors with significant expertise in their field and provide students with hands-on learning opportunities through internships and placement opportunities.

Brock University’s Goodman School of Business – At Goodman, students are able to build a global perspective through Goodman’s international partnerships and develop leadership skills through many clubs and competitions. The program provides hands-on experiences, both inside and outside of the classroom that will help students launch their career.

St. Catharines Enterprise Center – The Enterprise Center is a unique partnership between Ontario’s Ministry of Economic Development, Job Creation and Trade and works in conjunction with the local area municipalities in the Niagara Region. The office is part of a network with over 47 similar Small Business Enterprise Centers with a wide range of business support services. The mandate of the Enterprise Center is to provide guidance and support to small business start-up and is a proud community partner for Ontario’s Summer Company and Starter Company Plus programs.
